What is My Vision?

I am pro-future for our kids and grandkids.  I want future generations of Redlanders to be able to live, learn, play and work here in the city.  I want our unique coastal lifestyle to be one of the greatest assets, along with our residents and the pride they have in the city.

What is My Five-Point Action Plan?

1. Providing training and education opportunities

  • Acquire Birkdale Commonwealth Land for a potential University site.
  • Attract Surf Life Saving Queensland headquarters & Centre for Excellence for Life Saving with new community pool.
  • Build more relationships with industry and students to support initiatives like Australian Industry Trade College
  • Complete planning for Health and Wellness precinct around Redland hospital offering education and employment opportunities.

2. Keeping the cost of living low for residents

  • Keep rate increases low
  • Keep tips free for residents
  • Look for other fees and charges that can be removed and or reduced.
  • Deliver on-demand bulky  waste collection (commence July '16)

3. Create a new economy

  • Plan the Thornlands Innovation Employment Area, to leverage off the Federal Government innovation policy, with high speed broadband
  • Drive local employment through Priority Development Areas at Toondah Harbour and Weinam Creek
  • Leverage Redland Council Council Economic Development Board to explore new economic opportunities
  • Develop an events strategy that continues to support local festivals and attract major events to the city to benefit local businesses
  • Continue our CBD and tourism incentives to attract more investment across the city

4. Connect our city

  • Bring the NBN to the Redlands sooner (through economic development board and NBN enabled projects)
  • Upgrade main arterial roads (Cleveland-Redland Bay Rd – it’s not on the State’s infrastructure list so it is up to us as a city to find a solution e.g. market-led proposal)
  • Free intra-city mini-bus: take cars off the roads and connect residents to key locations.
  • Continue to lobby the state government to step up to their responsibilities re state roads, busway and rail duplication.

5. Enhance the local environment and community spaces

  • Plant one million trees in strategic locations across the city
  • Continue our involvement in the world-first koala chlamydia vaccine trial
  • Department of Primary Industries land at Alexandra Hills to be acquired and used for environmental purposes
  • Deliver a water park for Redlands
  • Deliver a new sports field for the Southern Redlands

  • Create more foreshore public spaces through Priority Development Areas at Toondah Harbour and Weinam Creek
